Hey friends,
We had so much fun last night sharing the Hungry Authors Idea Lab scorecard, talking through book ideas, and rating bestsellers against the criteria. We also made some updates to the scorecard based on our discussion and added a color-coding system, so here is the updated version for you!
The 1 column are things you really don’t want to do if you’re trying to get a traditional book deal (unless you’re a celebrity and can get away with it!). The 2 column are qualities that can work - in other words, publishers may still accept your book but you don’t want your idea to be 2s all the way down. The 3 column is where you really want to be with your book idea - timeless, timely, and presenting a different angle/opinion than the popular narrative or belief around your topic.
We’d love to know what you think of all this! Got questions? Let us know in the comments.
Join us next week to Map Your Book!
Our next Map Your Book cohort begins on October 7 and we’d love to have you! We’ll help you refine your idea and then plan your book from start to finish. Live classes are Tuesdays at 1p ET, but if that time doesn’t work you can access the recordings and join us for our Thursday night workshops instead.
